Patient Consent
Victorian Imaging Specialists
Victorian Imaging Specialists is committed to ensuring that all patients understand their rights and responsibilities when undergoing medical imaging procedures. Informed consent is required for many imaging services, particularly those that involve contrast injections, interventional radiology, or sedation.
When is Patient Consent Required?
Consent is needed for imaging procedures that:
- Involve contrast dye, which may carry a risk of allergic reactions
- Require sedation or anaesthesia for patient comfort
- Use interventional radiology techniques such as biopsies or drainage procedures
- May have risks associated with radiation exposure, particularly for pregnant patients
How to Provide Consent:
- Before your procedure, our staff will explain the process, potential risks, and any preparation required.
- Patients will be asked to sign a consent form confirming their understanding of the procedure and any associated risks.
- If you have concerns or questions, you are encouraged to discuss them with our radiology team before proceeding.
Special Considerations:
- Patients under the age of 18 will need consent from a parent or legal guardian.
- If you have a medical condition that affects decision-making, a designated carer or authorised representative may provide consent on your behalf.
- For procedures involving contrast, patients should inform staff of any allergies or kidney conditions before signing consent forms.
