CT Imaging

Service Overview:
Computed Tomography (CT) scans use advanced X-ray technology to capture detailed cross-sectional images of the body. These scans help diagnose conditions affecting the brain, chest, abdomen, spine, and blood vessels. CT imaging is particularly useful for detecting injuries, tumours, infections, and vascular diseases.

Victorian Imaging Specialists use low-dose CT technology to ensure high-quality imaging while minimising radiation exposure. Our wide-bore CT scanners are designed for patient comfort, and contrast imaging is available when required to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Preparation Guidelines:
Preparation for a CT scan depends on the type of study being performed. Some scans require fasting, while others may involve drinking a contrast solution or receiving an intravenous contrast injection. Patients should wear comfortable clothing without metal fastenings and inform staff of any allergies, particularly to iodine-based contrast dyes. A full set of preparation instructions will be provided upon booking.

What to Expect During the Procedure:
Upon arrival, patients may be asked to change into a gown. During the scan, they will lie on a motorised table that moves through the CT scanner. The machine takes multiple images in rapid succession, requiring the patient to remain still. Some scans may involve holding their breath momentarily. The procedure is generally quick and painless, lasting between five to fifteen minutes. If contrast is used, a warm sensation may be felt temporarily. Results and Next Steps:
CT scan results are reviewed by a specialist radiologist and sent directly to the referring doctor. Patients should follow up with their healthcare provider for further discussion.
